Write Up:
I was not too sure how good a day this would actually be. Standing in the LRT parking lot with Rachelle, Rosalbina, Carol-Anne, and Anna, we could feel the cold January winter morning air. We left for Elk Island and after some fun with the other drivers meeting us at the event and locating the trailhead, we were soon off on the trail. The fresh snow of the past few days was very nice and the weather though cloudy throughout, was surprisingly fine. With our movement and layers, we kept warm and enjoyed a nice and easy snowshoe trail which for the first 2km had good views of snowcovered Astotin Lake. We did go a little further than what the trail info I received from the Park had said, but it was not at all disappointing. A round trip of about 6km. We had some snacks and a small lunch stop at some picque-nique tables at the lake shoreline called beaver point. The beavers were nowhere to be seen this day, taking refuge for the winter. A very enjoyable half day outing. I want to thank all for coming and for Carol-Anne for driving. I hope to see everyone on future events.
