This was a "double-header" snowshoe event in Elk Island National Park.

On a chilly day, after the excitement of waiting for a wayward truck to be rescued from a ditch, we walked the Shoreline Trail first (6km return).
It was a pleasant hike, not the most stunning scenery but enjoyable nevertheless. The trail had not been heavily used beforehand, and so wasn't packed down very much.

After a short break at a shelter where we (or was it just me!) looked on enviously at a group hogging the firepit, we then walked the shorter Lakeview Trail (3.5km return).
It was a really nice little trail and we got to stand alongside the base of a large overturned tree for some nice photo opportunities.
Much of this hike was in darkness, so the headlamps came in very handy!

Due to the overcast conditions, the light wasn't really condusive to a spectacular sunset, but it was nice anyway.

Elk Island is an awesome area not too far from Edmonton, and well worthy of some of your time - we'll be back!

Thanks everyone for attending and being a great group!
