Itinerary:
Come out to Elk Island on a Sunday afternoon and snowshoe a couple of the scenic trails!

We will snowshoe the Shoreline Trail (6km return) first, note that none of the organizers have visited the Shoreline Trail, but according to the trail description it appears very straightforward. and then after a short break and a change of trailhead we will finish off by snowshoeing the Lakeview Trail (3.5km return).
The intention is to visit the Lakeview Trail around the time that the sun is setting - read on below!

This portion will be at s...l...o...w... photographer pace. One of the volunteers for this event has previously visited the Lakeview Trail also referred to as the Enchanted Forest. View 60 ft coniferous trees fallen over revealing their root systems 18+ feet in diameter, not something you will see very often. The trail is an easy hike with outstanding vistas at numerous locations. Our plan is to be completing the hike to a spectacular sunset (Weather Permitting/Fingers Crossed everyone) as the views are absolutely brilliant.

Please see the plan below for more information:

If you do not own snowshoes, you can rent them from MEC or Totem. As it is a holiday weekend, rentals may be more heavily booked than normal, so once you have confirmed your place on this event please arrange your rental as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!

For carpooling, we will meet at the parking lot for the Bonnie Doon Mall (SE corner) at 1:45pm.
Please be on time, as we need to leave Bonnie Doon by 2:00pm. We are allowing a good amount of time to be at Elk Island by 3:00pm (remember those without park passes will have to pay $7.80 at the self-service machines at the entrance).

If you are meeting us at Elk Island, meet at the trailhead for the Shoreline Trail for 3:00pm.
If you have not been here before, please print off the map linked above, so you know where to go.

As we will be finishing at Elk Island around early evening, bring a headlamp / flashlight.
