Itinerary:
We will meet at the Waskehegan Trailhead approx. 30 minutes east of Edmonton at 12:50 PM. Karen will be wearing a black ball cap.

The Cooking Lake / Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area is a large area located to the East of Edmonton near Elk Island, with an extensive network of scenic trails - see the info below:

We will hike approximately 15 km depending on the group and the paths we choose (minimal elevation for 2-2.5 hours). The terrain is gently rolling hills.
We will stop at the Meadow shelter for a break.
Please bring enough water because there is no potable water in the park, and some snacks to enjoy.
Bring sufficient water/snacks, and suitable clothing/footwear for anything the weather might throw at us!

IMPORTANT NOTE #1: although dogs are permitted on this event, please note that the Cooking Lake / Blackfoot PRA state that pets should be kept on a leash at all times and your dog must be able to behave in groups of people.

IMPORTANT NOTE #2: keep an eye on your emails and the weather forecast leading up to this event, as it may be postponed in the event of heavy smoke or other condition updates.

    How to Get There:
    Event Directions:24 km east of Sherwood Park on Wye Road. Follow the road signs. The park is on the south edge of Elk Island National Park. Park close to the wooden shelter at the Waskehegan Staging Area.
    DIRECTIONS: 20km east of Sherwood Park (about 35 minutes drive) Easiest route is east along the Yellowhead Hwy to the Elk Island National Park flag pole and a sign to Cooking Lake/ Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, then south down RR 210 for about 7km. Turn left into the Cooking Lake / Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, Waskahegan Staging Area parking lot. How to get to Waskehegan Staging Area
