Itinerary:
Come to the Alberta 4-H Centre Resort Campground for an afternoon hike (this is just a day hike and no need to sign up if you are already on the main weekend event signup for overnight stay). We will explore the trails that they maintain and visit an amazing forested area, which is home to wildlife and rare vegetation. On the designated hiking trails we will discover Alberta’s largest natural fern glade, and walk along 65 million- year-old bedrock sections. We will try to go as far as some backcountry campsites that they have further along the lake trails. There are multiple small bridges across the ravine and fern trails.

Some of us will be staying overnight to hike more of the surrounding area on Sunday, which includes Mount Butte on other end of the lake. Mount Butte is a lesser know Alberta Parks Natural Area with a Kame "mountain". This foothill sized Kame has amazing views that Mark has explored over the last couple of years and knows about good access to the network of trails to get to the summit overlooking the winding Battle River source, and Battle Lake.

Considering signing up to the overnight event as well and let Mark know in the notes if you are camping or staying in the large dormitory with 98 bed capacity (we can spread out). We will also be starting a bonfire roast and BBQ Saturday night after some ultimate frisbee and other games late in the afternoon if you can stay and join. There's a possibility too of ordering Pizza to be delivered from nearby Pigeon Lake Village to enjoy after the hike.
No worries if you just plan on staying for the day and fire!
