Itinerary:
We will start the hike in Hermitage Park. Please arrive at 7:15 AM for a prompt 7:30 AM departure. Cars will be left at the end of the trail to return hikers to their cars at Hermitage Park. This walk will be at a fast pace for an extended distance. We have done this event before and had people with blisters, sun exposure issues, poor hydration (due to lack of preparedness) and exhaustion. Unfortunately the event must go on and members who cannot complete will be asked to leave the event. Please ensure to bring money for public transit or have access to ride share services. While I encourage all members to challenge themselves and come on this event, I do caution that it is not easy and I will follow up with you to ensure that you are capable of completing the event. If you are looking for a nice stroll through the river valley, this event it not for you. If you are looking for a challenge, let's do this!

We will hike on a mix of paved and gravel paths through the following parks to get to the cars parked on Howatt Dr SW.

  • Hermitage Park
  • Rundle Park
  • Gold Bar Park
  • Capilano Park
  • Kinnaird Park
  • Dawson Park
  • Riverdale
  • Louise McKinney Riverfront Park
  • Nellie McClung Park
  • Kinsmen Park
  • Emily Murphy Park
  • Hawrelak Park
  • Whitemud Equestrian Park
  • Rainbow Valley Park
  • Whitemud Creek Ravine
  • Larch Sanctuary
  • Anthony Henday Wildlife Tunnel

I plan on stopping around the 23 KM point to have lunch for no longer than 15 minutes. When we sit we get cold and it's hard to continue. This will be at Hawrelak Park where we can also utilize the facilities.

Difficulty: the walk will be at a "higher brisk" pace (approx 5.75 km/h - 6.25 km/h) for approx. 46 KM.

Dogs are very welcome on this hike - if you are bringing your dog(s) please note this when you sign up for the event. Please keep your dogs on leash at all times on this hike as the paths will be busy with other people hiking and biking.

For those that complete the event and have energy left, we will be having dinner/drinks at the Provincial Pub. After the pub we can walk off dinner.....yeah right!
