Intro to Sea Kayaking in CALGARY (8/11/2018)

I have signed up directly with the University of Calgary and thought I'd post this as an EOC event in case others are interested in learning how to kayak. Below is info from the UofC's event description - click HERE to see their website for the course info. The course code is: S18OSKA015. I will NOT be coordinating a carpool nor accommodation.

Description - This fun 2.5-hour intro will give you the skills required to safely maneuver a sea kayak on flat water. We'll cover water safety, essential equipment, launching, landing and stroke development. The we'll go for a fun tour on the beautiful Glenmore Reservoir.

Withdrawal / Transfer Policy - To withdrawal a $15 fee applies. No refunds or transfers 5 days prior to course start date.

Prerequisites - No experience necessary! This course is focused towards adults, but children aged 13 and up are welcome with their parents.

Transportation Details (from Calgary) - All paddling gear will be transported from the Outdoor Centre to the teaching site. If you wish to catch a ride with the instructor from the Outdoor Centre, please call Finlay MacNeill at 403-220-7022 or email paddle@ucalgary.ca

Medical Form, Waiver - In order to participate in this program you are required to sign an Adult Waiver or Youth Informed Consent. You will also need to fill out the online medical form. - If you are unable to sign the online waiver or medical form the instructor will have paper copies available.

Additional Information - Please come prepared for the weather!

We use Current Design Storm model singles and crosswind double kayaks for our intro classes. If you are very tall, short or wide please feel free to come into our shop and ensure that the fit of the kayak is acceptable prior to registering. With advanced notice we can bring in some recreational kayaks which fit larger people.

We offer fully catered Lodge based tours and camping tours to the Broken Group Islands.

__ Warm clothing layers (try to avoid cotton!)
__ Neoprene wetsuit (optional- nice in early spring when the water is colder)
__ Wool socks and old runners, or sturdy sport sandals

__ Change of dry clothes/Extra clothes to leave in vehicle

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Meet at the Heritage Park side of the Glenmore Reservoir. It is just west of 14 st SW on Heritage Dr. It is on the east side of the reservoir. The dock is on the left before the Park. Click HERE for a map. Please park in the designated parking spots at the top of the hill or in the large main parking lot.

Cost Includes:Cost ($68.25) includes all paddling gear provided (kayaks, paddles, pfd's), safety gear, kayak instructors, gear rental discount (you may rent wetsuits, and raingear from the Outdoor Centre for a 10% course discount).
