Itinerary:

The Bowron Lakes Canoe Circuit is a 116 km chain of 10 lakes in East-central British Columbia that is famous for its scenery and ease of canoeing. I am proposing to leave late on Friday August 8th, camp in Jasper, and drive the rest of the way (Bowron Lakes Provincial Park is 120 km east of Quesnel) on Saturday, to start the actual canoeing on Sunday August 10th. The circuit takes 5-10 days to complete, so I am allowing for 7 days, and we should be off the water on Saturday August 16th, and home late Sunday August 17th.

The circuit is Wilderness camping at established campsites, with no cell service and no dogs or other pets allowed. It is largely lake canoeing, there are 8 or so portages linking the lakes and you hit the longest (2.4 km) on your first day! There is one small rapid linking Isaac Lake to Isaac River, but it is easily portaged.

Due to the popularity of this route, the BC parks system opens reservations on January 2nd, and I need to know if people can commit a week to a fantastic canoe trip by the end of December. I will also need money, the reservations are $60 per person and $19.08 for the reservation fee, per person. You will not be included on this trip until you have paid!!

More information is availble at Bowron Lake Provincial Park

Canoe rentals are available from Becker's Lodge Ltd. just outside our departure point, they cost about $180 - $230 per canoe for 10 days, depending on your paddling experience and will make carpooling much easier! Canoe rentals include 3 paddles and 2 life jackets each. They also rent canoe carts, a highly reccommended device so you can wheel your canoe and some of its gear along the portages, rather than carry it all.

Food for such a long trip will be planned out at a pre-trip meeting, but will be something like: you are on your own for breakfast and lunch, unless you wish to team up with someone. Each boat of two people will provide one supper for the entire group. This will give us some variety and a chance for all to show off their gourmet freeze-dried cooking skills!

It is not necessary for people to register in pairs, I will pair up boats according to skill level and who all registers.

COST: I have asked for a deposit of $100 to hold your place on this trip, this will allow me to reserve your spot on the circuit, and also to reserve canoes for those who require it. Campsite fees along the way, gas for vehicles and food will be the major portion of the rest of the cost, I expect it to be somewhere around $400 per person for the 9 day trip.

Required Items to Bring:
clothing for 9 days
food for 9 days
paddling muscles!
An extensive list of Essential Equipment will be provided to those who register.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
A change of clothes to leave in the cars for the ride home.

How to Get There:

Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):2000Km
Carpool Departure Time: 6:00 PM
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $580.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Wednesday, May 1, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.

Notes:

- Registration is NOT COMPLETE until you've signed up and paid by the registration cut off date. The money must be in the EOC's possession by that date. No exceptions.
- When a minimum group size appears, this is to let you know that the event will be cancelled with refunds to those who have already paid, if the minimum number of registered participants is not met.
