Itinerary:
The University of Alberta Alumni Association is kicking off its 100th Anniversary by organizing the Green and Glow Winter Festival at the University of Alberta campus, which will be held from January 29-31, 2015.

Several activities are planned: a science lecture on Thursday January 29th and outdoor activities on Friday January 30th and Saturday January 31st.

The Cool Science Lecture presented on Thursday January 29th will be presented by Dan Riskin, a University of Alberta alumnus who is current host of the Daily Planet on the Discovery Channel. He will share ultra-cool stories about science and mother nature.

UPDATE: Dan's talk is titled Why the sucker-footed bat of Madagascar doesn’t suck, and how a U of A degree helped me figure that out.

Dan currently works as the co-host of Daily Planet on Discovery, but before that he was a full-time bat biologist, and before that he was a U of A undergrad. Dan will share some of his adventures from his days at the U of A and explain how those experiences have continued to shape him as an alumnus. Expect bat stories, behind-the-scenes TV stories, a few tales from Dan’s new book, Mother Nature is Trying to Kill You, and at least one tearful reference to the Radiohead concert Dan missed at Dinwoodie Lounge. The talk will be kid-friendly, but aimed at adults.

There is a $10 cost to attend the lecture. IF you plan to attend, you must register and pay in advance by clicking here, or by accessing the U of A Winterfest website, and selecting "Register Here" below the Cool Science description.

Free parking will be available at the university for the entire festival. For the Science Lecture, parking is available for free at the Education Car Park (east side of 114 Street, just north of 87th Avenue) and Lots U and N (adjacent to HUB Mall, accessed from 111 Street between 89 Ave and Saskatchewan Drive). A map of the parking lots is available, but while the Education and Stadium Car Parks are also marked, free parking is not available at these locations for the Science Lecture.
