Itinerary:

We will ski from the Waskehegan staging area to Meadows hut and back. The trails are double tracked for classic skiing. The trails go out in series of interconnected loops from Waskehegan. All junctions are signed with trail maps. The trails undulate through aspen forest past a series of lakes. There are plenty of ups & downs but no major steep hills. The trails are easy with some intermediate sections. We will ski about 13 km.

If you don't have skis, you can rent ski packages at Mountain Equipment Co-op or Totem Outfitters.

Blackfoot Recreation Area is located 24 km east of Sherwood Park, directly south of Elk Island National Park. The Waskehegan staging area is located on the west end of the park, on Range Road 210, just south of Township Road 524.

To get there, travel east on 82nd Ave (Whyte). Turn north on 17th St. (exit to the right). Then, east again on Baseline Road through Sherwood Park to the end of the road. Turn right(south) and follow the road for a few kilometers - the parking lot will be on the left. Go all the way to the end of the road to the parking lot - you'll see the outhouses and info sign.

The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $23.20 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Tuesday, April 23, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
