We will meet up at 1:00pm at the carpool location & leave once assembled. Hopefully start hiking around 1:45pm.

We will hike the moss lake trail (13 km) at Elk Island National Park. Please bring a snack if you wish as we will most likely stop along the trail for a break or two.

The trail is moderate and has sevaral rolling hills so participants should be fit and ready for a good workout. We will be maintaining a moderate pace of ~4km/hr with snack/water breaks when needed.

Participants should be prepared and or expect any weather possibilites for this day.

This trail is on the north side of the highway and wood bison, the largest mammal in North America have called this area home since 1963. The area is also home to moose, elk, deer and a wide range of small mammals and birds.

I will be at the car pool location but will not be returning to Edmonton. I will organize the car pool accordingly. Please look for my silver Hyundai Sante Fe. Of note, the trailhead is just minutes before Astotin Lake. If you hit Astotin Lake, you've gone a bit too far so just back track a little bit.

Elk Island National Park is located approximately 40 minutes from Edmonton, via Highway 16 East (Yellowhead).

The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $23.20 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Saturday, April 20, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
