Itinerary:
This world renowned trail takes hikers to some of the best scenery in the province. Beyond Kinney Lake, the trail enters the valley of a thousand falls. Fed by Mist, Berg, and Robson glaciers, visitors often see and hear huge chunks of glacier ice break off into the blue green lake.

The hike to Berg Lake camp is a strenuous 21 km and 800 m net gain from the trailhead parking lot. We will camp the first night at Robson Meadows, across from the Mt. Robson information center. We will then camp at Whitehorn Campground for one night, and Berg Lake for 1 night. There will be a mandatory pretrip meeting. Date/Time TBC.

-THURSDAY
The plan is to meet at a location TBC in Edmonton, and carpool to Mt Robson, leaving Thursday morning. There can be a stop in Jasper for any last minute supplies, maybe an ice cream and head to Mt Robson. Target reaching the information center at Mt Robson early in the afternoon.
The first night camping will be at the Robson Meadows Campground, across the highway from the info center. Its a pretty spot and after we set up camp and check our gear for the next day, we can go for a short hike, or just relax in the beautiful surroundings. If we are there early enough, we will also pick up our backcountry passes for the next 2 nights and do the orientation, so we are ready to go for the next morning.
NOTE: the coordinator will be driving from Calgary, so will we will meet at the Robson Meadows campground. The drivers will exchange cell phone numbers so we can meet.

FRIDAY
The next morning, we will park at the trail head and hike in 7 km to Kinney Lake campground, stop for a quick lunch and keep going through the valley of a thousand falls to Whitehorn camground for the night. About 12 km total, lots of up and down, net elevation gain a few hundred meters, but its alot of up and down to get there.

SATURDAY
Saturday morning we break camp, and hike the rest of the trail (~15 km) to Berg Lake, the tough part of the trail is after a few kms, its a tough slog up the cliff, past the incredible emperor falls, then we get to amazing Berg Lake, were we will camp for Saturday night. We will enjoy a nice supper at the shelter with the beauty of the glacier and lake and the backside of Mt Robson. Hopefully we will hear/see the glaciers crashing into the water!!
Net elevation gain is about 700 meters, but there is a tough hike at the beginning of the second day. Its a well maintained trail but alot of "up" first part of Saturday.
We will set up camp and as we should still have some afternoon left, there is time for a short hike without the weight of our packs, to get a better look at the Robson Glacier. The campsite is across the lake at the base of the Berg Glacier, a stunning spot to camp.
There is a hut at the campsite, with a wood stove, bear lockers, picnic tables, wash basin, grey water disposal.

SUNDAY Sunday we will pack up, hike back out and drive home, stopping for something to eat in Jasper.

I have done this trip several times and it is a bit of a tough hike, but do-able if you are fairly fit and have practiced carrying a pack on some of the conditioning hikes, and worth the effort for the amazing scenery and back country camp experience.

NOTE THE COORDINATOR IS DRIVING FROM CALGARY, SO WILL BE MEETING YOU AT ROBSON MEADOWS CAMPGROUND THURSDAY AFTERNOON. I will help organize the carpool but its up to you to get yourselves to Mt Robson. Maps will be give out at the pre-trip meeting in Edmonton

There will be a pretrip meeting to decide tent partners, food, gear, carpooling, and other details. Date and time TBC. If you don't have all the gear chances are we as a group may have enough to share.

Max persons is 8, minimum 4. This is an amazing hike and worth the additional effort and time to get there.

THIS IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS. IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE CLUB EVENTS WITH A SIMILAR DIFFICULTY, YOU MAY BE CONTACTED ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH MOUNTAIN HIKING; THE ORGANIZER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REJECT APPLICANTS WHO THEY FEEL ARE UNSUITABLE. PRE- CONDITIONING HIKES ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

Sign up on the wait list, then send me an email briefly outlining your hiking experience, gear, expectations, etc. Its a popular, but serious hike, you need to be prepared, (no wheelie suitcases, cotton, or flip flops allowed)

I will then move you to the participant list when you have paid for the camping fees. For fee payment, please email injuneer4 at yahoo dot com. No paypal please.

Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $261.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Monday, April 29, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.

Notes:
This is not an easy hike and sustained hike with significant elevation gain. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO CARRY A BACKPACK 12 KM WITH ELEVATION GAIN. There are wardens on site and it is a popular well maintained trail, but this is an intermediate backpacking trip and you need to be in good condition. You need a good backpack, but if you don' have one, you can rent. Let me know if you have any problems with obtaining gear. I have done this trip before, and weather and snow conditions are unpredictable, participants must understand that the suggested itinerary is subject to last minute revisions as required for group safety. BUT IT IS AMAZING!!!
