Itinerary:

Suitable for Street, Hybrids & Mountain bikes
This ride is basically paved all the way with one section of maintained cinder trails below Fort Edmonton Park (FEP).Easily accomplished on a street bike, hybrid or mountain bike.
Quite side streets and an exhilarating decent* over the fly over, taking us over top of Fox drive into the bus lane (away from traffic) that drops us into the Equine Centre and FEP. Two sets of hills present the physical challenge against the magnificent backdrop of the river valley. About an hour and a half ride.

Distance just over 16km, a 550-600 calorie burn, elevation gain of 161 m.

*for those not wishing to partake in the exhilarating decent, there is a double back option retracing the switch backs and we'll meet up at the Equine park, Whitemud Park trail intersection.

Route:
We'll set out up a slight hill beside Ramsay Park and detour off to enjoy views of some of the "estates overlooking the river", one of these recently listed for a cool 15 million dollars, along 154 Street & Whitemud Road (no.... not the Whitemud freeway). Down a great little hill into the river valley, along a paved trail (upper River Loop Trail) over the top of Fort Edmonton, then continue to follow the paved trails under the Freeway, behind the Equine Centre, up the switch backs and into Belgravia. Along Saskatchewan Drive (**PHOTO OP**) enjoying even more (if this is possible) splendid views of the river valley . It's here that those wishing not to partake in the exhilarating decent* turn back. The rest of us will continue over top of Belgravia Rd using the crossover, skirt Foot Field do the exhilarating decent* down the flyover to Fox Drive (in the bus lane to avoid traffic) and meet up at the Equine park, Whitemud Park trail intersection.
Back along the cinder trail (Lower River Loop Trail) below FEP enjoying the fall colours, up the great little hill. We then follow a series of paved trails through Brander Gardens culminating on Whitemud Road for one of the most spectacular elevated views (**PHOTO OP**) overlooking the river valley, Edmonton Country Club and Terwillegar Park. It's a brief coast down the hill and we are back at the starting point.

Meet at 2:00 pm for a 2:15pm start.

I will be wearing my yellow EOC baseball cap.
