Itinerary:

Please read carefully: This is a multi-week program with three workouts a week. They will be on Tuesday evening, Thursday evening and Saturday morning.

It’s spring time in Alberta and time to think about getting in shape. How about coming out for a Boot Camp style workout tailored to your own personal fitness level? It doesn’t matter if you are a couch potato, an ultra-marathoner, or anywhere in between, this workout will help you on your way to a fitter lifestyle.

How much would you expect to pay for a fitness boot camp? Edmonton gyms advertise boot camps at $29.00 for four sessions. That’s 12 sessions for $116.00! With the EOC boot camp you pay a voluntary donation of $2.00 per session. That’s $24.00 for 12 sessions! A savings of… well, a lot!

Interval circuit weight training is the very best exercise for your body. It builds muscle and bones, burns fat and ½ hour is better for your cardio fitness than running 10 kilometres! This is the perfect way to get a jump on your summer fitness goals, or better yet, to re-energize that New Year’s resolution you made to get back in shape.

The workout consists of 10 core stabilizing exercises, each done for 30 seconds with a 15 second break in between. When the ten are finished, there is a two minute break, the circuit is repeated, another two minute break and the circuit is repeated a third time. Each circuit takes 7.5 minutes, so three circuits and two rest periods in between make for a total of 27.5 minutes.

The ten exercises work every major muscle group of the body and are designed for overall fitness so they are perfect for a broad range of fitness and weight loss goals. The weights used depend on your own level of strength and should be so that you can easily do 10-12 reps of an exercise.

This program is really two programs, one for men and one for women. The men’s version is designed by the experts at Men’s Health Magazine while the women’s version is designed by the experts at Women’s Health Magazine. That is the reason I chose these two, they are almost identical with only two minor variations for gender.

We will meet at Emily Murphy Park in the parking lot close to the Groat Road bridge at 9:15 a.m. (Look for my big yellow Nissan Xterra and the ever present yellow EOC hat) The workout will begin promptly at 9:30.

After our workout we will head off across the Groat Road bridge and down River Valley Road to the Glenora Club where we will cross the LRT bridge and then return to Emily Murphy Park and our vehicles.
