Itinerary:
I want to find a good technical terrain trail or two for backpack/terrain training. I am going back to do part of the West Coast Trail and part of the Juan de Fuca next summer and need to think about training. I've done WCT before, and I know what the terrain is like, and I want to find something that has as much rough terrain as possible to do with my backpack on for training.

I want to check out the mountain bike trails at Terwillegar for this purpose. I am thinking that Fireman's Trail and a section of Roller Coaster Trail look promising, and I suspect that there aren't any (or many) mountain bikers out this time of year.

This walk will be an exploratory walk to go check out these trails and assess their suitability for backpack/terrain training, and also assess whether we can train on these trails without damaging them or interfering with cyclists (who these trails are actually for).

If you have aspirations of doing the West Coast Trail, or any other rough terrain trails, particularly backpacking, please join me for this exploratory walk. Once I've found some suitable locations, I'll post regular training events through to next July. If you have other suggestions for trails/tracks which may fit the training "specifications", please e-mail me with your thoughts.

This will NOT be a fast-paced walk... the intention is to explore and assess the route for future events. Anyone who is interested in this walk is welcome - you don't have to be training for anything.

Meet in the parking lot at 10:00AM for a prompt departure at 10:15 (or earlier if the gang's all there). Look for Rhonda wearing (or holding) a yellow EOC ball cap, and/or, find Nemo.
