Itinerary:
A great way to start the backpacking season, no altitude, good distance, start getting used to your backpack for the season!

SATURDAY
at 10:00 am SHARP we will meet at the Waskahegan Staging Area within Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area. We will walk 6-7 km through gently rolling hills to the Meadow Lake Shelter. This will take 4-5 hours. We will have lunch along the way, get to the site, set up camp, spend the night, and Sunday we will walk out.

Click HERE for a map of the area and the location of the Waskahegan staging area. It is on the left hand edge of the page, halfway up, follow the lost lake trail to the lost lake shelter.

SUNDAY
We will start walking around 10 am again, and should be back to the cars by 3:00 pm.

-Potable water is supplied by the trail association, it is limited, but should be sufficient for all of us for the weekend. Bring minimum 2 litres of water for the walk in.
-I will have a group First Aid Kit, but each person should have a few supplies of their own, for blisters, etc.
-There is pit toilets and they may not have toilet paper, so bring your own as well.
-The park is supplying wood for a fire but there is only one fire pit. The Lost Lake Shelter is a small building, we can't really sleep in it but we can cook in it if it is raining, and it contains a wood burning stove so we can heat it.
-THERE IS NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED IN THE PARK.
-We will coordinate tent partners and stoves and other shared gear beforehand, but if you have any preferences for tent partners, please indicate this when you sign up.
-This is early in the season and the trails may be muddy, but hopefully the snow will be all gone! Bring warm clothing for the evening and to sleep, and a rain jacket.
-Bring a tarp or tent footprint for your tent, most likely it will be damp. There is a shelter at Lost Lake, but its not for sleeping, you need a tent and footprint.
-Tents and stoves are shared items with tentmates. Please indicate when you sign up if you have a stove or tent to share, and preferred tent partners.
-If you have any questions about gear or food or anything, please email.
-The cost of this overnight is free, there is no cost to use the Recreation Area, so you will just have to supply your own food and gear, and make your own arrangements to pay for car pooling.

-Pretrip meeting Date TBA, 7:00 pm, block 1912 Cafe on Whyte Ave near 104 st. If you cannot make the meeting, please email any questions, tent partners, etc.
