Itinerary:
Please note the change in dates.

If you've never been to Willmore Wilderness, here's your chance to explore a wonderful part of Alberta.

We'll leave at 11am on Saturday from West Edmonton Mall and arrive at Rock Lake in Willmore Wilderness Park around 3pm. After setting up camp at one of the 4 campgrounds in the area (tenting-only area), it'll be free-time to explore the area, relax, or do anything you want. We'll set up a potluck in the main cooking shelter and have a campfire in the evening.

In the morning, the excitement begins. At 8am, we'll drive 5km up to the trailhead and begin our arduous 27km dayhike with our bagged lunches. We will follow the Wildhay River upstream until we get to Seep Creek valley, where we will start heading up Seep Creek. At the 13km mark, we will leave the valley and bushwhack up a mountain ridge called Goat's Rest peak to have lunch, catch our breath and enjoy the spectacular view.
Afterwards, we will head back down the same way we came and find some hopefully still-cold beers and beverages waiting for us in the parking lot.
By this time it will be 5:30pm and time to cap off the whole weekend with a well-deserved supper in Hinton.

Due to the longer distance involved and a demanding ridge hike ascent, please register only if you're in excellent physical condition and can keep up with the group. Also, note there will be a river fording on the Wildhay River that is usually knee-deep and this will require sandals/booties.

Pretrip meeting to discuss the weekend and tenting partners will be June 8 at 7pm (location TBA)

This trip will be cancelled in the event of general rain but will continue if the forecast is for showers.
