Itinerary:

The plan is to leave for Lake Louise on Friday afternoon (after work or earlier) and head to the Lake Louise HI-hostel. Arrangements for how we will get there will be discussed further at the MANDATORY meeting prior to the event.

ACTIVITIES
The planned activities will be cross-country skiing and snowshoeing/hiking depending on the snow conditions. In the evenings, we may also skate on Lake Louise. Also, the hostel has an ice climbing wall; if you are interested in checking this out, you will need to make arrangements in advance of the trip with the hostel directly. Downhill skiing at Lake Louise is also an option for Saturday, but those interested in skiing must make their own arrangements for transportation to and from the ski hill.

The cross-country skiing choices will be easy to moderate in difficulty. Potential routes are listed here. The trails we we will ultimately ski on will be determined closer to the date, and decisions about this will depend on the current snow conditions.

Sandie’s Snowshoeing / Hiking choices will be easy in difficulty. Potential choices could include:
- Lake Louise Shoreline – 2 km one way, no elevation gain
and
- Fairview Lookout - 1 km one way, 100 m elevation gain - A short, steady, uphill trail offers a unique, but, spectacular view of Lake Louise and the Chateau.
and
- Lake Agnes - 3.4 km one way, 385 m elevation gain - A steady uphill climb through the woods to a picturesque lake. A staircase up the final 150 metres can be very slippery. Travel beyond the lake not recommended.
- Extra option if we have time is to go snowshoing along the Bow River near Castle Mountain Chalets for a couple of hours.
