Eighteen of us set out to do the Wood Bison Trail at Elk Island, a 16 km loop south of Yellowhead. Some met at the carpool at Belvedere station, while a number of others met us at the event.

The weather turned out to be fine; cool and even a bit frosty at the start, but warming up nicely through the day. We left the TH at about 11:15 and completed the loop by 2:45 for an average speed, including breaks, of about 5 km/hr!

And not a single bison to be found! Despite concerns about meeting large animals, we only spied a few at a distance, and had one flash of a bison running away from us in the bush. Three vehicles went up to the Bison Loop in the north of the park after the hike finished, and we actually managed to find a few wandering around in the pasture.

Good company, nice fall weather, a decent distance and an excellent speed. We all got a good workout, and a lovely fall walk. Thanks for coming!
