Write Up:
14 people managed to find the Wagner Nature Preserve, and we ambled around the short 1 km loop following the guide books provided, and checking through various reference books we'd brought along. Although the boggy part of the preserve was dried up due to the current drought, it was still an interesting mini-tour through some of the varied kinds of habitat found in Alberta.

We drove down to the Clifford E. Lee Sanctuary, which has also been affected by the drought - the swamp and wetlands that are usually home to a large number of birds was dried up and virtually empty. However, we walked down a series of trails through different habitats, from the aspen trail to the wetlands boardwalk, across the parkland meadow then to the pine knoll, then down the wildflower trail to its end at the Sanctuary's SE corner. There, some people took a short-cut back to the cars, while another group returned to the pine knoll for a snack and some conversation. It was only then that the animals began to appear, as a curious red squirrel turned up to try to mooch a meal and chickadees checked us out from the boughs of the surrounding pines.
