Write Up:
Today we met up at Bonnie Doon and head about 45 mins. east of Edmonton to our hiking destination – Islet Lake in the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Park.

The 16 of us had cloudy skies in the morning so the temperature was perfect but then the clouds disappeared and it got really hot. The temperatures in and around Edmonton reached record highs for this time of the year with +28C (to me, it felt hotter where we were with the humidity and sun beating down on us out in the open!).

We hiked for about 1 hour (4.4 km) then stopped for our lunch break at the Lost Lake shelter/picnic area for about 45 mins.

After lunch we went for another 2.6 km for another break then headed back along the same path due to the extreme heat and thought a thunderstorm was heading our way.

The hike was very pleasant with several rolling hills along the way. The views of the lakes – Islet and Elk Push – were very picturesque. The only downside was the heat so hopefully next time we can complete the full loop around.

We hiked approx. 14 km in about 3 hrs. 15 mins.

Once we got back to Bonnie Doon, 11 of us headed to Hudson’s Pub on Whyte Avenue for a bite to eat and of course some nice, cold beverages!

Thanks again everyone for coming out!
