The first ‘OC Challenge’ provided stunning weather; fantastic food, abundant alcohol and newly formed friendships.

I’m sure everyone will agree that it was a great weekend and lots of fun. Many of the group enjoyed a variety of hikes, and soaked up the sunshine that we had sadly been recently missing.

The Shunda Creek Scavenger Hunt provided an additional challenge and also created mixed teams of Edmontonians and Calgarians in the hunt for that green thong, unused condom and grizzly bear (who came up with these ideas?). The winning team managed to find everything on the list and as close a true match as possible.

The games began at 4.45pm and there was a great turn out and lots of enthusiasm, even if things didn’t quite go according to plan. Okay, okay …. the organisers take full responsibility for not tying the spoons to the string correctly, and for the not-quite-strong-enough Tug of War rope (sorry Justin). Despite that, all went well and the EOC defeated the COC to become the first Ultimate Outdoor Club. (There WILL be a trophy of some kind soon and I will send a photo to prove it).

As always, I have to give honourable mentions to some …

Chris - for his ‘movie star’ smiles that he produced for every photo, despite being under ‘carving’ pressure!
Inderjeet - for managing to sleep the longest during the ‘party’ night.
Kathryn - for her ingenuous and award winning pumpkin design.
Kevin - (of the COC) for his boot-camp order during pot washing! (Much appreciated).
The whole of the Fashion Show team, for a truly great performance.
Brian, sorry Craig (of the COC) - for being a great sport (when everyone insisted on calling him Brian) and also for doing the beer runs.
Nathan for being a great hostel manager.

Finally – to all who came, this was a fantastic event and I hope that you all had as much fun as I did.

Until next time…..
Karen
