Well, it wouldn't be a Shirley overnight event if a few things didn't go wrong. We got stuck in traffic on the way down and ended up getting into Golden quite late. No worries though, we entertained ourselves on the bus!
On Saturday, it was so cold that the gondola broke down around noon. Jen, Paul and Nathan were the unlucky ones who got stuck in gondolas for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. They ended up getting rescued and rappelling down off the lift. Quite the excitement. Downhill Riders offered to refund our lift tickets for both days, so thanks to them for that. Some people took full day lift passes for later in the season instead.
On Saturday night, we went to Lyric in Golden for the Downhill Riders party. It was a good group, and we all had a great time and got to know each other better. It was a dancing group, and some two-step and salsa moves were seen! Kyle invented his own special drink - the "Bar Mat". Yup, just as good as it sounds.
On Sunday the gondola opened around 11 am and several people headed back up to snowboard or ski. Another group decided to just go tubing and then have a few brews instead.
All in all a great time despite the weather. We might just do it all again in March for the PJ party at Fernie.
