We couldn’t of picked a better day for the first EOC canoe event! A glorious day awaited us all, with bright sunshine, blue skies and warm temperatures.
After departing Emily Murphy Park bright & early, we were taken by bus to Devon and handed lifejackets and sorted into 2 person canoes.
The full day trip along the Saskatchewan River proved to be both scenic and peaceful and our lunch stop at Big Island was the perfect opportunity to get to know each other and take photos.
Due to such a successful day, special achievement awards have been allocated for the following:
Sarah & Jason for their elite canoeing skills and also for their part in a rescue mission (another story!)
Steph & Chris – for looking so professional throughout (photo of Steph to follow!)
Trent & Justin – for their unwavering, expert paddling techniques
Kerry & Christine – for proving that ‘chicks’ are just as good (if not better) than men!
Julie - for her excellent canoeing skills and also for being the clear winner in the ‘Lets soak another canoe’ contest!
And last but not least:
Van & Karen for qualifying for the 2008 Summer Olympics for the Slalom & Freestyle Canoeing events!
A big thank you is due to Danielle our Edmonton Canoe guide, for her excellent instruction and patience throughout.
The day ended with a couple of cold beers at the Black Dog – a perfect ending to a great day!
