It was a beautiful and warm morning to get out and experience cross country skiing at Strathcona Wilderness Centre. We had a diverse group of individuals: a couple moderate paced skiers, a couple leisurely paced skiers and a total beginner. We started the day with a brush up on techniques at the training area. Everyone participated in various drills that emphasized gliding, kicking, and arm movements. Downhill and uphill techniques were covered as well. After a few falls some more pointers were given and the group was ready for the black runs. Loops covered: Old Ridgeway East and West, Coyote run, Wagon loop and Moose. Over 10KM covered in about 1.5 hours. Lots of little breaks and stops built in today. Great job everyone!
