Write Up:
What an awesome group of people who came out to enjoy the ideal weather, 23 degrees and cool in the shade. We quickly became a team biking in unison while stopping at various locations to socialize and mingle. We all learned that the Edmonton river valley trails are designated as part of our nations Trans Canada Trail system and is part of the largest urban parkway in North America. Our scenic tour of the river valley took us past panoramic views of downtown and spectacular flora and fauna. Many club members commented on seeing things in Edmonton for the first time. We travelled at least 25 kilometres heading east on the Southside of the river from Hawerlak park past the Muttart Conservatories. We then crossed the Dawson bridge to the North side river trails and headed west travelling past many of Edmonton famous landmarks and the beautiful Rossdale neighbourhood to complete the loop. The highlight was stopping near the Chinese gazebo across from Rafter’s landing and the Edmonton Queen Riverboat. We had a much deserved break on the benches and took time for a photo op. After the event was over a few of us enjoyed further conversation at Boston Pizza on Whyte Ave. Thank you for all who attended. I hope to continue our tour of our own backyard with more enjoyable EOC community bike treks.
