Write Up:
Tonight's hike definitely had an odd beginning: we wandered down the stairs from Saskatchewan Drive towards Queen Elizabeth Park and stumbled across a flaming garbage can at the bottom of the stairs (alongside Queen Elizabeth Park Drive). Fortunately, none of the flames had managed to escape beyond the garbage can, but, especially considering that the flaming can was located near the trees and that it was a rather windy day, a call was wisely put in to 911. A couple of us were able to douse most of the fire with water from our water bottles, and the firefighters confirmed that the fire was definitely extinguished.

Continuing along our hike, we worked our way through Cloverdale Park, worked our way over to the Muttart Conservatory, then followed the trails through the Mill Creek Ravine to 76th Ave. Mill Creek Ravine was quite mosquito-infested, and I suspect we all might have lost a bit of flesh to the mosquitoes along the way.

After exiting Mill Creek Ravine, we worked our way along 76 Ave. to 99 St., followed 99 St. to Whyte Ave., and followed Whyte Ave. back to our starting point at the Second Cup at 104 St. In total -- including the few minutes that we spent dealing with the burning garbage can -- the entire hike lasted for just over 2 hours. Afterwards, 5 of us headed to O'Byrne's, where we caught an excellent live Celtic jam (and some of us even got to see some tap-dancers before the evening was out!)

Thanks all for coming out! See you at the next event!
