Write Up:
It was a beautiful night for a ride as our hardy group set forth to explore the south bank of the North Saskatchewan River.
This was a new route for the Lovely River Valley series and the coordinators hadn't pre-ridden it. There was a little exploring involved and everyone took a turn at the front of the pack as we made our way along the pathes.
Our Route kept us close to the river as we took the rollercoaster-like gravel path to the top of Kiellor Rd. then back down again and passed the York Boat moored in the river near Fort Edmonton Park. We continued following the river until our path ended on the street near the new pedestrian foot bridge over the North Saskatchewan.
Remaining on the south side, we climbed the hill into the neighbourhoods and paused for a spectacular view across the river from a truncated driveway; all that remains of a home that slipped into the river a few years ago.
With our wristwatches telling us that we had used half of our allotted time, we eschewed the final drop down to Terwillegar Park, our intended destination, and headed back the way we had come. Terwillegar Park will have to wait for another opportunity.
Thanks to everyone who came out. I had a great time.
