Write Up:
Our intro climbing event was the perfect opportunity for EOC members to become acquainted with this popular pursuit. The friendly folk at VIRG set us up to do some bouldering (climbing done without ropes to a limited height) to get warmed up, then got us fitted out with shoes and safety harnesses, gave us a quick safety lesson and turned us loose. Working in teams of two or threes everyone was soon scaling the walls to ring the bells at the top and having a great time while they were at it. While the experts made it look easy, it was fast apparent that climbing is actually hard work - and as with many EOC activities, I'm sure there were more than a few sore muscles the next day. Nevertheless, the event was met with much enthusiasm and will be followed up with a certification event later this month so that the EOC can continue to rock the rock gym in the months to come.
