Itinerary:
Join thousands across Canada for the Great Canadian Shoreline cleanup! We’ll be removing litter and other garbage from the Mill Creek Ravine (88th Ave to Connors Rd). This is a great opportunity to help keep the spaces our club uses on a regular basis clean and beautiful. This is also part of very valuable data collection for research done by the Vancouver Aquarium, so we will be documenting what we find along the way. Afterward, we can go somewhere for a drink and/or snack, if desired.

Come out, have great time, and help make a difference! You can check out the cleanup website for more information.

There are various possible tasks, including picking up the garbage, holding the collection bags, and recording data as others collect. There opportunities to be adventurous (climbing up and down the river bank, picking things out of the water, etc), or to hang back closer to the main path, collecting there and/or recording data and carrying bags.

To add to your motivation, we will be competing with Team Narminator, who are doing the same event the previous weekend. Based on our collection data, we will determine who gets bragging rights as the winner of the 2009 EOC Shoreline Cleanup Competition!

Only thin rubber gloves are provided, but better gloves are recommended (work, latex, or rubber dishwashing gloves). We will walk along the shoreline, not necessarily a nice path, so sturdy shoes are a must, and rubber boots if you have them for getting into the ravine. WE ARE PICKING UP GARBAGE, SO COME PREPARED TO GET DIRTY.

We will meet in the parking lot at Ecole Maurice-Lavallee (8828 95 St.). There is street parking there. Please note that this is on the East side of the ravine so the best way to get there is from Whyte ave, turning North at 91st street and west at 88th ave.
