Itinerary:

SATURDAY
Leave my place (east side of Shaw Conf. Center) at 7:30am. Meet west end people at West Edmonton Mall at 8:00am. Head to Jasper. **Please indicate which location you need to be picked up from.**
Arrive in Jasper ~12 noon & meet up at Information Center downtown then head to nearby café for some lunch.
After lunch, hike the Valley of Five Lakes (4.6km loop, about 30m elevation gain, 1.5-2 hours) - approx. 11km south of Jasper.
Supper - We will have a potluck at the hostel or order pizza & salad & eat it at the hostel.
Evening - free time - options include: swimming in town, going to the movie theater, walk around town, play tennis, relax, sleep, board games,….

SUNDAY
Breakfast - at hostel
9:00am - head out for some hiking
1st stop - Hike Parker Ridge (5.2km return, 275m elevation gain, 1.5 hours) - approx. 90km south of Jasper.
2nd stop - View the Columbia Icefields & we will walk to the toe of Athabasca Glacier & go a bit on the glacier (about 3km, minimal elevation gain, about 45 mins) - approx. 15km south of Parker Ridge.
3rd stop - On way back to Jasper, we'll take a short walk at Athbasca Falls - short walk, about 30 mins max. - approx. 71km north of the Columbia Icefields, 32km south of Jasper
Supper - We will head over to a Greek restaurant - The Palisades Restaurant - main entrees cost approx. between $10-25.
Evening - free time - options include: swimming in town, going to the movie theater, walk around town, play tennis, relax, sleep, play board games,….

MONDAY
Breakfast - at hostel
10:00am - head out for some hiking
Hike at Malgine Canyon (7.4km round trip, 125m elevation gain, 2 hours) - not far from the hostel
1:00pm - lunch in town (TBD) then head back home
Optional stop on way home - ~60km east of Jasper, we could stop off at Miette Hot Springs for a relaxing soak!!
Also optional - head to Hinton for some supper, then once done head home, sweet, home!

ACCOMMODATION:
Maligne Canyon Hostel is located 11 km east of Jasper. From Highway 16, turn on to Maligne Lake Road, cross the bridge over the Athabasca River, follow the fork to the left, cross another bridge, and look for the hostel sign on the right hand side of the road.
Details of hostel: This is a wilderness hostel with limited creature comforts - no running water, no showers or washing area, and no flush toilets. We do have purified water for cooking, a refrigerator, propane stoves and lights. Click here for more info. about the hostel.

Required Items to Bring:
Hiking gear - shoes/boots, poles, clothing, jackets, etc.
National Park Pass (if you have one)
Food for potluck dinner on Saturday night
Food for breakfasts on Sunday & Monday
Food for lunches on Sunday & Monday
DRINKING WATER for entire weekend
$$ for meals (lunch on Saturday & dinner on Sunday), souvenirs, etc.

How to Get There:

Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $290.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Monday, April 29, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.

Notes:

- Registration is NOT COMPLETE until you've signed up and paid by the registration cut off date. The money must be in the EOC's possession by that date. No exceptions.
- When a minimum group size appears, this is to let you know that the event will be cancelled with refunds to those who have already paid, if the minimum number of registered participants is not met. For any events where EOC needs a minimum number of participants, there will be absolutely no refunds of money if you cancel.
- We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines at all times while participating in EOC events.
