Itinerary:

University of Alberta's Botanic Gardens is a field collection of beautiful plants surrounded by inspiring architecture. Located just north of Devon, it's only about 30 minutes out of Edmonton. The Aga Khan Garden, Alberta, is a spectacular 11-acre feature garden, with secluded forest paths, wide, stepped terraces that change with the seasons, geometric stonework, fountains and water features that stream into wetlands, and an orchard surrounding the scenic Calla Pond. Quite simply, this Islamic- design inspired garden offers a venue like no other.

On July 19th, University of Alberta Botanic Garden has a special event going on at 730PM to 9PM:

The Light of Other Skies: Arthur Erickson and Francisco Kripacz A theatrical reading of a new work by playwright Liam Monaghan.

Edmonton writer, theatre artist, researcher, and educator Liam Monaghan presents a theatrical reading of his new play exploring the lives of prominent Canadian architect Arthur Erickson and his lesser-known partner in work and love, interior designer Francisco Kripacz.

This outdoor reading offers a unique opportunity for theatre lovers and architecture aficionados to engage with a jewel of Canadian architectural history, while raising awareness of Dyde House, one of Erickson’s earliest known residential buildings, nestled on the grounds of the Garden.

The reading will feature an exterior tour of Dyde House followed by the performance at the Amphitheatre in the Aga Khan Garden.

To find me at the carpool location, I will be driving a white subary outback and wearing my green sun hat.

If you're meeting me at the gardens, I will be waiting at the garden entrance and will be wearing my green sun hat until 7pm. If you are running late, please bring my phone # with you so you can contact me and we'll try to find each other.

The reading will take place at the amphitheatre (pictured below): a beautiful, secluded setting adjoining the Aga Khan Garden in a natural woodland bowl surrounded by forest, with built-in granite seating.
