Hiking, Fire, and Ice Skating at Miquelon Lake Provincial Park (1/1/2024)

Itinerary:
There will be a fire, * free hot dog/smokie roast after the Hike (feel free to bring your own food items as well). There will be tables we can use, and an enclosed shelter if necessary.

Enjoy a skate that will happen after our hike (details below):

- Miquelon boasts an Ice Trail , including a skating rink.
- If you don't skate the fire pit will be located right next to the man made skate trails, where you can stay warm and enjoy the unseasonably warm weather.

- Miquelon Lake Provincial Park is located southeast of Edmonton has a back-country trail hiking network.
Miquelon's back country trails include a wide variety of terrain, including beaver ponds, marshes, aspen forest, spruce bog and muskeg. This area is a part of the Beaver Hills Area that in similar to Elk Island and Blackfoot Cooking Lake Area.
A complete hike circuit around the outside is around 10-12 km (exact distance may be shorter as required/ TBD). Before we head back to stretch our legs after with the optional ice skating around their skate ponds and actual ice skating trails (**optional if you don't skate).

- Feel free to join the fire and picnic at the fire pit and picnic tables next to the skating trails
*Bring your own food or snacks, or participate in hot dog roast provided.

There will be a carpool available from Edmonton if desired - meet at the north east corner in the parking lot for Meadows Transit Centre at 10:20 AM for a 10:30 AM departure.
Look for Mark wearing a Blue EOC cap or red touque.
From there, we will drive out to Miquelon Lake Provincial Park. For those meeting at Miquelon Lake, we will aim to be there for around 11:15 AM and stay until around 3:00 PM (Carpool group will stay until the end of the skate event).

Directions: from Edmonton head East on Highway 14, then turn South on Hwy 21.
When you pass New Sarepta, there will be a sign directing you to turn left (east) onto Hwy 623 to access the park. Follow Hwy 623 and look out for another sign sign telling you to turn left to access Miquelon Lake PP.

Once you get to Miquelon go through the park gates and stay right.
We will meet at the main parking lot at the Park Interpretive Centre building (see the updated map below) .

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Go straight east from Edmonton. Turn south on Hwy 21 until you pass New Sarepta. Turn left at the sign for Miquelon lake Provincial Park. The park is a few kilometers farther on. Meet at the main parking lot near the Park Centre.

Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $40.60 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Wednesday, May 8, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
