Itinerary:
Join us for this WINTER SPORT EXTRAVAGANZA on St. Paddy's day weekend on Saturday March 16th, 2019.!! Wear green if you want, or just wish a "top of the mornin to ya" to everyone you see on the trails :D
Thanks to Lynn, who was able to secure some grant funding through the City of Edmonton SNOW FUNDs grant, all food, beverages, and wood will be covered by the grant! The grant supports winter initiatives to encourage people to get out and enjoy the "winter" weather. There will be a fire, hot dog/smokie roast, and food during and afterwards the event (feel free to bring your own food items as well). Enjoy a skate, snowshoe, or just hike the many trails throughout the area. afterwards. Miquelon also boasts an Ice Trail through wooded trees, including a skating rink.

Miquelon Lake Provincial Park is located southeast of Edmonton and has a back-country trail network, including ice skating ponds/ skating trails, and snowshoe trails. ** (There are no xc-skiing trails set this year at Miquelon).

Miquelon's back country trails cover some 18 km, and include a wide variety of terrain, including beaver ponds, marshes, aspen forest, spruce bog and muskeg.
A complete circuit around the outside is around 10-12 km (exact distance may be shorter as required/ TBD). Before we head back we will also stretch our legs after with some ice skating around their skate ponds and actual ice skating trails.

There is a carpool available for this event - if you are carpooling we will meet at Starbucks, James Mowatt Trail/ 111 Street in Ellerslie at 9:00AM for a 9:15 AM departure.
Look for Mark wearing a Blue EOC cap.
From there, we will drive out to Miquelon Lake Provincial Park. For those meeting at Miquelon Lake, we will aim to be there for around 10:15 AM.

Directions: from Edmonton head East on Highway 14, then turn South on Hwy 21.
When you pass New Sarepta, there will be a sign directing you to turn left (east) onto Hwy 623 to access the park. Follow Hwy 623 and look out for another sign sign telling you to turn left to access Miquelon Lake PP.

Once you get to Miquelon go through the park gates and stay right.
