Itinerary:
Join us for this Winter Extravaganza Sports Event! With a fire, hot dog roast, and skate afterwards.

Miquelon Lake Provincial Park is located southeast of Edmonton and has a substantial groomed cross country ski trail network, including ice skating ponds/ skating trails, and snowshoe trails. If you don't cross country ski at an intermediate level or have equipment, bring your snowshoes or ice cleats to try the trails **(There should be enough members for both snowshoeing and xc-skiing). Please indicate with Mark what equipment you are bringing in your registration notes.

Miquelon's back country trails cover some 18 km, and include a wide variety of terrain, including beaver ponds, marshes, aspen forest, spruce bog and muskeg. For the cross country skiing group we will be intermediate skiing.
A complete circuit around the outside is around 10-12 km, but if desired we can add to that by including some additional loops. Before we head back we will also stretch our legs after with some ice skating around their skate ponds and actual ice skating trails. I will bring hot dogs for a fire and hot dog/marshmallow roast as well!

There is a carpool available for this event - if you are carpooling we will meet at Starbucks, James Mowatt Trail/ 111 Street in Ellerslie at 9:00AM for a 9:15 AM departure.
Look for Mark wearing a Blue EOC cap.
From there, we will drive out to Miquelon Lake Provincial Park. For those meeting at Miquelon Lake, we will aim to be there for around 10:15 AM.

Directions: from Edmonton head East on Highway 14, then turn South on Hwy 21.
When you pass New Sarepta, there will be a sign directing you to turn left (east) onto Hwy 623 to access the park. Follow Hwy 623 and look out for another sign sign telling you to turn left to access Miquelon Lake PP.

Once you get to Miquelon, to get to the backcountry trail head, go through the park gates and stay right.
You will pass the interpretive centre and the staff housing road. Turn into the 'Group Use Areas 1-2' where you will see a baseball diamond and parking. We will meet there.
The trail starts just a few hundred feet ahead to your right.

The Park's Winter activities are shown in the attachment below:
