Itinerary:

We will meet in the parking lot at Emily Murphy Park (NW corner nearest the Groat Road bridge) at 10:30 AM for registration, leaving at 10:40 AM.

The hike will begin by heading west into Hawrelak Park and crossing the river at the Buena Vista footbridge. We will continue through Buena Vista Park up the hill to Riverside Drive, continue back down into MacKinnon Ravine. After continuing past Groat Road Bridge to the Douglas B Menzies bridge (which carries the LRT over the river), we will work our way back to Emily Murphy Park along the south side of the river.

Along the way we will hunt for a number of geocaches that are hidden along the way. Our goal will be to find three River Valley Alliance geocaches that are hidden along the way (GC6GPMT - The Pits; GC6H07N - Emily Murphy; GC6H07X - Maike Grove Deck). These three geocaches, and 25 others hidden alongside the North Saskatchewan River between Devon and Fort Saskatchewan, are part of the River Valley Alliance's GeoTour. You can find more details about these geocaches, including their coordinates, by registering on geocaching.c om. Anyone who wishes to participate in finding these geocaches will need to bring either a GPS or a smartphone that has a geocaching app installed.

Required Items to Bring:
Appropriate footwear and clothing
Ice grips (expect it to be icy along parts of the river valley)
