Let's get our hike on :D, We will head out to Chickakoo for a conditioning hike!

Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area is located west of Edmonton, north of Stony Plain.
There are four interlinking trails - Indian Ridge, Nature's Way, Woodland Lookout and Cranberry Corner trails, in total around 14 km.
If we do the outer edges of the loops this will be roughly 10-14 km. This is a great conditioning hike with plenty of hills to challenge us. We will do 2 loops with a 20 minute break half way and lunch in the picnic area at the end. This should take around 4-5 hours depending upon the pace of the group and the condition of the trails.
This hike will be a steady pace of 5-5.5 km/hr. Please ensure you are able to keep up. Join us and get your heart pumping while enjoying this beautiful parkland.

The terrain is mainly gently rolling hills, but there are one or two steeper ones too. There are picnic tables and outhouses along the trails.

There will be a carpool for this event if required - meeting at 8:45 am at the overflow parking lot for the West Edmonton Mall, on the north side of 90 Avenue, approximately by 175 Street.
Look for me in a Red Ford Escape. I will be in the neon pink headband and t-shirt.
If you are travelling by transit, remember that the carpool location is on the opposite side of the WEM from the transit centre, and you will need to allow approx 15 mins to walk through the Mall to the carpool. We will be leaving from the carpool by 9:00am.
Please don't be late as we cannot wait for late comers!

If you are driving straight to Chickakoo, we will meet at 9:45 am, and be on the trails by 10:00.
The meeting place at Chickakoo is the large parking lot as marked on the trail map, to the right of the words "The Point" on the map.
Please note this event will proceed rain or shine. Please dress for weather conditions.

West on Highway 16 from Edmonton, turning north onto Highway 779 (range road 10) at the road sign. Follow the signs to Chickakoo - or - left at Twp 534, right at RR 13, left to stay on RR 13 and then right at Chickakoo.

The meeting place at Chickakoo is the large parking lot as marked on the trail map, east of the words "The Point" on the map.

The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $24.65 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Wednesday, April 17, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
