Itinerary:
For a change of scenery, we will hike through a trail network in Camrose. The Stoney Creek Park trail network is maintained by the Camrose Ski Club (for winter xc skiing), and is a delight to hike in the warmer months.

We will begin our hike at the Stoney Creek Centre, and work our way south through the park, which follows a valley floor. At the south end of the park we will reach the Camrose Ski Club's biathlon range.

As we begin our hike near the Stoney Creek Centre we will see the remains of the Camrose Ski Jump, which is a very impressive landmark! Decades ago, people came from all around to watch ski jumping tournaments in Camrose, and a fierce rivalry built up between the Camrose and Edmonton Ski Clubs, after a bigger jump was constructed at Edmonton's Connors Hill. The Edmonton ski jump no longer exists -- the last tournament at Connors Hill was held in 1975, and the ski jump was demolished in 1978. Ski jumping continued in Camrose through 1990, when it hosted the Alberta Winter Games, but today the jump is no longer in use. The citizens of Camrose are actively debating the future of the ski jump, which may be demolished later this year.

Our total hiking distance from the Stoney Creek Centre to the south end of the park, and then back, will be about 12 km. If people are interested, we may extend our hike by an extra 2-3 kilometres, heading north to the University of Alberta's Augustana Campus, before heading back to our cars. Trail maps for the area are available at:www. camroseskiclub.com/maps/.
