Itinerary:
Earth Hour is a global symbolic gesture to raise awareness for climate change. Cities around the world will turn their lights off between 8PM and 9PM to show support for the cause. It started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia and was a great success! This year, it has turned into a world wide effort to coordinate this symbol.

With lights out and nothing to do, why not come down to Coronation park for a quick dinner BBQ and then the Telus World of Science (formerly Odyssium) and do some stargazing?

We will meet at SITE 2 of Coronation Park (blue canopy). We will start with the BBQ. The cost of $2 goes towards firewood, but may be waived if enough members bring wood. We will also bring hotdogs (w/bun) at an extra $2 each, but you must RSVP in advance. Otherwise, it's bring your own food and drink. We will start the fire. We will also have a potluck for salads and desserts. After we eat, we will head over to the Observatory. In the spirit of the occasion, please minimize waste by bringing your own reusable dishes, utensils and cups. Please note that as it is still winter, the park's washrooms will not be open. However, the Telus World Of Science main building will be open till 9.

The observatory is located adjacent to the main building on the south-east side. The telescopes are manned by professional and amature experts and they're glad to help people focus in on the amazing sights light years away. There is no cost, but the observatory is located outside, and its operation on any given night is highly weather dependent. If the sky is too cloudy, the BBQ will still go ahead, but star-gazing might not be possible.

Even if you don't sign up for this EOC event, you can still take part in Earth Hour by turning off your lights. Furthermore, you can also organize events for your own network, such as hosting a lights out block party.
