So we drive out to Elk Island Park, park at the Visitors Center at the south end of the park & ride north to the north gate & back. We will detour onto two or 3 short gravel roads to do a little visiting. We will go to Astotin lake just for fun. There are no significant hills & the road is smooth & the cars go slow.

Required Items to Bring:
A bicycle on good running order, a helmet, two liters of drinking water. There is drinking water in the park to refill your water bottles.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Sun glasses, sunblock, a snack, camera

How to Get There:
Event Directions:If you want to go directly to the park, just go east on highway 16 for about 45 minutes. Take the NORTH entry into the park, not the south entry that is closer to the city. We are looking for the MAIN entrance to the park off of highway 16, Yellowhead.
Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):150Km
Carpool Departure Time: 8:45 AM
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $43.50 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Saturday, May 4, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.

Notes:
Be prepared for some gravel though only about 2 to 4 miles. There is a snack bar at Astotin Lake & we could stop there if somebody needs a beverage. There is no formal lunch break, just snack & beverage breaks.
