Itinerary:
TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design.

Join us for an evening of TED. We will watch two videos from their web site and discuss the videos. The videos are approximately 20 minutes long. We'll start the first one at 7:00 and the second one at 8:00, leaving up to 40 minutes for discussion after each one.

Our videos for tonight will be:
  1. Janine Shepherd: A broken body isn’t a broken person: Behavioral economist Cross-country skier Janine Shepherd hoped for an Olympic medal -- until she was hit by a truck during a training bike ride. She shares a powerful story about the human potential for recovery. Her message: you are not your body, and giving up old dreams can allow new ones to soar.
  2. Aimee Mullins: The opportunity of adversity: The thesaurus might equate "disabled" with synonyms like "useless" and "mutilated," but ground-breaking runner Aimee Mullins is out to redefine the word. Defying these associations, she shows how adversity -- in her case, being born without shinbones -- actually opens the door for human potential. A record-breaker at the Paralympic Games in 1996, Aimee Mullins has built a career as a model, actor and advocate for women, sports and the next generation of prosthetics.

Please arrive by 6:45 as we will be locking the school doors at that time. Use the buzzer to get in between 6:45 and 7:00. After 7:00, we won't be able to let you in so as to not disrupt the videos and discussion.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
- Your own beverage (NO ALCOHOL allowed in the school)
- A snack to share (take your leftovers with you when you leave)
- Slippers or house shoes to put on. We take our shoes off at the door of the school.
- A pillow or cushion for comfortable seating - most of the chairs are the usual institutional school chairs. You may decide you want to sit on the floor with a cushion instead.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:9011-182 St.
Parking in the lot just North of the building. Come through the front doors on 182 st. Go down the hallway and take the first right and follow to all the way to the end to the library. We'll be either in the library or in Rm 7 next to the library. If the front door is locked there is a buzzer on the wall on the right hand side.
