The Edmonton International Film Festival is on from September 23rd to October 1st.

We will see "Higher Ground". 2011 Sundance and Tribeca favorite, "Higher Ground" is Vera Farmiga’s remarkably assured directorial debut. The film is about a tight-knit spiritual community thrown off-kilter when one of their own begins to question her faith. Inspired by screenwriter Carolyn S. Briggs’ memoir, ‘This Dark World’, the film tells the story of a thoughtful woman’s struggles with belief, love, and trust—in human relationships as well as in God.

One of the most self-assured directorial debuts in recent memory, Vera Farmiga’s film at once questions and embraces the role of faith and spirituality in our lives – without ever once reverting to the ugly stereotypes so prevalent in movies about religion. It’s funny and provocative and it will stay with you for days. This is easily the best movie about ‘faith’ since Robert Duvall’s "The Apostle".

The Edmonton City Centre Mall is located in downtown Edmonton. The Empire Theatre is located on the top level of the mall. Please meet me outside the box office. I will be wearing a yellow EOC ballcap.
