Itinerary:
For Northern Hemisphere observers, August is usually regarded as "meteor month" with one of the best displays of the year reaching its peak near midmonth. That display is, of course, the annual Perseid Meteor Shower beloved by everyone from meteor enthusiasts to summer campers.

We will walk in - IN THE DARK - to the boardwalk less than 1km from the parking lot where we will settle in and watch the action. "The Action" being hoping and waiting for the occasional streak of light across the sky.

Information from IMO Viewing Astronomic Events:
As a rule, meteor showers are best viewed under clear, dark skies, from about one to three hours after midnight, local time. At that time of night, the speed of Earth's rotation combines with that of its orbital motion, so that the viewer is "plowing into" a cometary debris trail at maximum speed. Because a meteor shower covers a fairly broad region of sky, it is best viewed with the naked eye; binoculars and telescopes restrict the field of vision.
The intensity of the shower may vary from only a few strikes to many hundreds of strikes per hour. Simply find a spot well away from the glare of city or mall lights, cast your eyes in the direction (usually eastward) of the constellation for which the respective shower is named, and watch the show.

Note that this event will go ahead only if the skies will be clear enough for meteor viewing on the night of.

NOTE that 2011 is not going to be a great year for viewing Perseids because there will be a full moon at the same time. We would still like to give it a shot... plus, it'll be cool to go walking around in the park at night. Ref: Earthsky
