Itinerary:
FRIDAY
Leave Edmonton ~ 5:00 PM and head to Jasper. We will have an optional pre-trip meeting on Tuesday, May 17th at 7:30 PM at Block 1912 on Whyte Ave. (10361 - 82 Ave.) to discuss carpool arrangements.

SATURDAY
Breakfast - at hostel
1st Stop - We will hike the Valley of Five Lakes (4.6km loop, about 30m elevation gain, 1.5-2 hours) - approx. 11km south of Jasper.
2nd Stop - After our hike we will visit Athabasca Falls, before making our way back to Jasper.
3rd Stop - Back in Jasper, we will take the tram ($30/person + tax) to the top of Whistlers Mountain, and follow the trails at the top of the mountain.
Supper - We will have a potluck at the hostel or order pizza & salad & eat it at the hostel.
Evening - free time - options include: swimming in town, going to the movie theater, walk around town, play tennis, relax, sleep, board games,….

SUNDAY
Breakfast - at hostel
9:00am - head out for some hiking
1st Stop - Kinney Lake (9km return, 130m elevation gain, 3 hours return) - approx. 84km west of Jasper in Mt. Robson Provincial Park in B.C. The Kinney Lake hike forms the first 4.5 km of the Berg Lake backpacking route. The trail will take us through a unique rainforest that is created from a unique microclimate that forms near Mt. Robson.
2nd Stop - Before returning to Jasper, we will visit Overlander Falls.
Supper - We will meet up in town at the information centre, and decide as a group where to go for dinner.
Evening - free time - options include: swimming in town, going to the movie theater, walk around town, play tennis, relax, sleep, play board games,….

MONDAY
Breakfast - at hostel
10:00am - head out for some hiking
Option #1 - Sandie will lead a hike at Maligne Canyon (7.4km round trip, 125m elevation gain, 2 hours) - not far from the hostel.
After the hike, we'll have a quick stop for lunch in town then head to Miette Hot Springs.
Option #2 - Ryan will lead an excursion to the Sulphur Skyline trail, located near the Miette Hot Springs. (8km round trip, 700m elevation gain, 3 hours return). The Sulphur Skyline trail takes us to a ridge overlooking several remote wilderness valleys.

Please Note: Both options will only be possible if drivers are available to take people to each location. Both groups will reconverge at Miette Hot Springs, located ~60km east of Jasper, for a relaxing soak!!

Also optional - head to Hinton for some supper, then once done head home, sweet, home!

ACCOMMODATION:
Maligne Canyon Hostel is located 11 km east of Jasper. From Highway 16, turn on to Maligne Lake Road, cross the bridge over the Athabasca River, follow the fork to the left, cross another bridge, and look for the hostel sign on the right hand side of the road.
Details of hostel: This is a wilderness hostel with limited creature comforts - no running water, no showers or washing area, and no flush toilets. We do have purified water for cooking, a refrigerator, propane stoves and lights. Click here for more info. about the hostel.

National Park Pass (if you have one)
**Hostelling International Membership Card (if you have one. If you do not have an HI membership card, you will be charged an additional $12 on arrival at the hostel)**

Carpool Cost: The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $290.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Friday, April 26, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.

Notes:

- Registration is NOT COMPLETE until you've signed up and paid by the registration cut off date. The money must be in the EOC's possession by that date. No exceptions.
- When a minimum group size appears, this is to let you know that the event will be cancelled with refunds to those who have already paid, if the minimum number of registered participants is not met. For any events where EOC needs a minimum number of participants, there will be absolutely no refunds of money if you cancel.
- We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines at all times while participating in EOC events.
