Blackfoot Recreation Area - Slow Paced X-C Ski (12/21/2010)

Itinerary:
Slow-paced cross-country ski outing. Please note that the coordinator has not done these trails before - patience (and assistance/advice) appreciated. Novices welcome

We will start out at the Waskehegan staging area and ski from there. We may split into multiple groups depending on abilities. The trails are generally well-groomed, and not too difficult. You can see a trail map if you wish.

If you don't have skis, you can rent ski packages at Mou ntain Equipment Co-op or Totem Outfitters.

Skis, boots and poles (and wax, if appropriate)
Warm clothing appropriate to the weather

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Blackfoot Recreation Area is located 24 km east of Sherwood Park, directly south of Elk Island National Park. The Waskehegan staging area is located on the west end of the park, on Range Road 210, just south of Township Road 524.

To get there, travel east on 82nd Ave (Whyte). Turn north on 17th St. (exit to the right). Then, east again on Baseline Road through Sherwood Park to the end of the road. Turn right(south) and follow the road for a few kilometers - the parking lot will be on the left. Go all the way to the end of the road to the parking lot - you'll see the outhouse, info sign, and lovely shelter with the wood burning stove.
