This three-hour program is for new climbers. It presents all the information necessary to get you started in the sport of indoor rock climbing. The course introduces new climbers to the facility and teaches the basics of the top rope system including belaying (controlling the rope at the bottom for the climber), the figure-eight follow-through knot (used to secure the climber while they climb), and all the appropriate safety checks.

Vertically Inclined Rock Gym (VIRG) instructors will set you up with all of the equipment, keep you under a watchful eye,and challenge you on the facility's walls.

Following the course you will be able to come in and complete a belay check, which will give you access to all of the top rope routes at VIRG.

Vertically Inclined Rock Gym (VIRG) is a great indoor rock gym with plenty of climbing space. VIRG is equipped with top rope systems, lead climb areas and pulleys. VIRG has plenty of bouldering space for those not ready for ropes.

Event cost includes entrance to the climbing facility, instruction, gear and a donation to the World Partnership Walk.

All participants will be required to sign a facility waiver upon arrival at VIRG. This waiver is in addition to the one required by the EOC upon registration for this event.

The cost of this event includes a $5 donation for the World Partnership Walk, an annual event that raises money for global development. EOC members have participated in the World Partnership Walk for several years and this is the second year that we are organizing a climbing fundraising event.
