Situated on 550 acres of parkland next to the beautiful shores of Bennett Lake, the Strathcona Wilderness Centre offers 12 km of trails through woodland, meadow and lakeshore terrain. (See map)

We will hike for ~ 9-10 km, stopping for lunch at one of the picnic spots along the way. Since the SWC is a popular place for winter sports, we will also scout out the trails as a possible showshoe/xc skiing destination for the coming months.

Please note that your coordinator has not hiked this particular trail previously.

The Strathcona Wilderness Centre is located 20 minutes east of Sherwood Park on Township Road 530 (Baseline Road) and Range Road 212.

To get there, travel east on highway 16.
Turn right at Range Road 215 and go 3.2 km.
Turn left at Township Road 530 and go 4.9 km.
Turn right at Range Road 212 and go 1.0 km.

The event coordinator(s) will help you to arrange a centralized carpool if you require it, but it's not guaranteed. Please DO NOT pay your driver en route. Passengers will pay the coordinator, and he/she will distribute the money to the carpool drivers. SO PLEASE BRING CASH!!! Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $26.10 (calculated at total Km * $0.29, effective Thursday, May 2, 2024). This is based on $0.09/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9. This cost will be multiplied by the number of carpooled cars, and divided by the number of carpool participants.
