Unfortunately, a last minute cancellation by the vendor meant that we didn't get to ride any horses. The weather had actually cooperated - a couple of weeks of frosty and snowy weather made the prospect of this event going ahead appear dimmer at times, but the temperatures warmed back up just in time. However, the melting snow left behind a whole lot of mud, which we can blame for our not being able to ride any horses. I, personally, was too excited about the idea of having a steak dinner that I had to order steak at a restaurant in Edmonton tonight. But as for the rest of us ... no steak dinner either.
Since we had driven all the way out to Gibbons anyway, 15 of us decided to head over to nearby Bon Accord, where we wandered around Prairie Gardens looking at their haunted house and enchanted forest. We watched pumpkins get fired out of a cannon at a pirate ship, and later wandered through their very muddy corn maze. After our adventures, we headed back to Gibbons and had drinks and appetizers at the Gibbons Hotel.
Thanks all for coming out. I'm disappointed that the horseback riding couldn't happen - maybe I'll try to put on another such event next year. At least we were able to salvage an enjoyable day out of it!
