We encountered a bit of rain and quite a few mosquitoes, but other than that we had an awesome time hiking the Saturday Night Lake loop.

Some of us (Nancy, Ibone, Jayson and myself) headed out on Friday night, and spent the night at the KOA campground in Hinton, where we marveled at the million dollar RV's that our fellow "campers" had. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), KOA bingo was not on the to-do-list for Friday night!

We made our way out to Jasper on Saturday AM, to join Lenka, Carolyn and Luc, who departed Edmonton bright and early Saturday AM. Our departure from the trailhead was over an hour later than our 10 AM planned departure time, but we still made it the 12+ km to the High Lakes campsite in time for dinner, even adding in an extra 1.6 km sidetrip to have lunch at Saturday Night Lake. After spending the night at the High Lakes campsite, we continued another 12+ km to complete the circuit and arrive back where we started.

Speaking for myself, I know I learned quite a few things on this trip:
- mosquito killing contests are a little bizarre, but apparently quite fun
- backcountry campsites in Jasper have their own green throne
- even in a backcountry campsite in Jasper National Park, it is still possible to access the internet and to call others (including fellow campers!) on the phone.

Thanks everyone for coming out, and I hope to see you soon at another event! Kudos especially to Nancy, for arranging to cook up an awesome dinner on Saturday night for the entire group, and Friday night for Jayson, Ibone and myself.
