Our group had an opportunity to spend quite a bit of time in John Walter's third house. This house, built in 1901, was a grand and large house by Edmonton standards at the time. John Walter, who was one of Edmonton's first millionaires was an incredibly successful businessman whose business ventures included a ferry service, a telegraph service, a stopping house and a lumberyard.

We also visited his first house, which was built in 1874 and his second house, which was built in 1886 and were given an opportunity to see several artifacts including: sock dryers, a wringer, an iron and a coal-heated foot warmer.

We were also provided with an overview on candle-dipping and enjoyed some freshly-baked scones. An unexpected visit by Mr. Walter's grandson made the event all the more memorable.
